About the Book
The Shiva Samhita is one of three major surviving classical treatises on Hatha Yoga, the other two being Gheranda Samhita and Hatha Yoga Pradipika. It is considered the most comprehensive treatise on hatha yoga and. It is believed that the Shiva Samhita is a dialogue between Lord Shiva and his consort, Parvati. This treatise consists of five chapters and 517 verses in all which deals with the practice of Yoga, ways of attaining siddhi, philosophy of existence, importance of Yoga, spirit and maya, functions of the body, principles of pranayama, and kundalini. This book has given unique contribution to Yoga which is not seen anywhere else.
About the Author
Sris Chandra Basu was an Indian Sanskrit scholar, judge, writer and translator of numerous works. He translated major yoga texts such as the Ygasastra the Gheranda Samhita, and the Siva Samhita into English, several through his own publishing setup called the Panini office in Allahabad. This translation of the Shiva Samhita from original Sanskrit into English is an important contribution to the literature on Yoga and should be of great use to those interested in the subject.
