This edition examines the multi-dimensions of socio-economic and cultural empowerment of women in globalised world in two sections and it is further classified into ten chapters. The very first chapter introduces the concept of empowerment explaining Individual, group, community and women empowerment. Second chapter discusses challenges in women’s economic empowerment. Third chapter deals with innovative approaches in women economic empowerment while fourth chapter focuses on the role of microfinance in empowering women. Fifth chapter examines recent available evidence to shed light on significant issues concerning rural women’s economic empowerment while sixth chapter presents conceptual framework, methods, and techniques of rural women empowerment through income generating activities in Karnataka. Seventh chapter discusses self help micro credit programme in Jammu & Kashmir while eighth chapter examines role of information and communication technologies on women empowerment. Ninth chapter deals with the status of tribal women in India and the development and employment programmes implemented by the government while tenth chapter discusses cultural barriers in women empowerment in Pakistan.

About Author

ABIDA SAMIUDDIN is an eminent feminist scholar and journalist. She did M.A. in History and Urdu Literature from Patna University, Patna. She has contributed number of research articles in reputed journals and newspapers and presented papers in various national and international level seminars and conferences. She had worked in Urdu Academy, Patna for two years. Presently, she is doing freelance journalism and associated with important newspapers and NGOs.

R. KHANAM is a senior research fellow of sociology of Rabindra Bharti University, Kolkata. Presently, she teaches sociology in Abhedananda Mahavidyalaya, Birbhum. She has contributed some important research papers in journals of national repute and presented papers in national and international level seminars.  She is associated with social activities of women welfare.
