In many developing countries, governments have invested large amounts of public money to support renewable energy for sustainable rural development. Are these investments has impact on the rural development? This question is explored in this book and highlighted the ways in which renewable energy can be used to support sustainable rural development. Keeping these issues in mind, author has designed this book in five chapters that deals with rural renewable energy policy in legal and regulatory framework; the current need of renewable energy for sustainable rural livelihoods; institutional mechanisms and national commitments to access energy services in rural areas; use of renewable energy technologies to innovate gender mainstreaming rural development programmes; and synthesis bio-energy and biodiesel policies for rural development in Indo-Chinese perspectives. This book is valuable source of information for scholars, academicians and professionals working on energy crisis and rural development.
About Author
M.P. Singh, an ecological economist, obtained his doctorate from Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, and Masters’ in Economics from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. He has been involved in various global environmental assessments, including the UNEP’s flagship GEO-4 as leading scholar. He has conducted research and consultancy projects funded by illustrious donors like WWF, UNCTAD, UNEP, and many others. He has published four books, and a host of peer-reviewed journal papers and book chapters, apart from popular articles in newspapers and periodicals. Presently, he is a Visiting Fellow at the School of Social Sciences, Linnaeus University in Sweden.
