This edition investigates the relationship among behaviour, psychosocial factors, the nervous, endocrine and immune systems, and disease. Each system affects the others in enhancing and inhibiting processes elsewhere in the body. Research in the field has grown enormously in recent years to understand these interdisciplinary systems and processes. It begins with an interesting introduction of Psychoneuroimmunology and proceeds to first section to clarify physiology and immune system basics leading to neuroendocrine and immune functions, aging and psychoneuroimmunology, method in psychoneuroimmunology. The second section focuses on physical and psychological aspects such as cancer, HIV/AIDS and psychological disease. Third section of this book calls attention to psychological interventions in enhancing immune functioning and prevention/curing diseases. This edition will serve as a valuable tool to understand this complex interdisciplinary subject at the junction of molecular biology, genetic, the neuroscience, immunology, cell biology, endocrinology, pharmacology, bio-chemistry, and the behavioural sciences.
About the Author
Dr. Rajbir Singh, presently working as Professor in Department of Psychology, M.D. University, Rohtak. He is the Co-ordinator of DRS-Phase I under UGC Special Assistance Program (SAP). Earlier he has also served the Department of Psychology, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra. He has a long teaching and research career spanning over three decades in Psychobiology and Health Psychology and a large number of students have completed their doctoral work in his guidance. He has authored several reports and contributed large number of research articles to various books and Journals of National and International repute. ‘Psychology of Individual Difference’, ‘Health Psychology’ and ‘Psychology of Well-being’ are the books he has published.
Dr. Radhey Shyam, presently Professor in the Department of Psychology, M.D. University, Rohtak, has over two decades of teaching and research experience in the area of clinical and Health Psychology. He has completed major and minor research projects financed by UGC and other bodies. Many students have completed their M.Phil and Ph.D. He has published more than forty research papers in books and Journal of national and international repute. One of his co-edited book. ‘Psychology of Well-being’ has been published.
Dr. Shyodan Singh, is teaching psychology in Zakir Hussain College, New Delhi. He has completed Ph.D from University of Delhi, Delhi and honoured by Junior and Senior Research Fellowship of UGC. He has taught in Delhi University and its colleges, M.D. University Rohtak (Haryana). He has been coordinator and resource person in several academic programmes. He has published several research papers, articles, and book reviews in National and International Journals.
