The book entitled, Operating Systems covers all the fundamental principles of operating system in great detail, including processes, deadlocks, and memory, paging algorithms, disk scheduling and protection. It will enable the students not only to learn the principles but also use it in practice.
The book consists of thirteen chapters. The first chapter is an introduction of the operating system. The second chapter covers the operating system structures. The third chapter deals with process management. The fourth chapter covers CPU scheduling. The fifth chapter deals with process synchronization. The sixth chapter deals with the issue of deadlocks. The seventh chapter deals with the concept of memory management. The eighth chapter discusses virtual memory. The ninth chapter deals with file system management. The tenth chapter discusses I/O and disk scheduling. The eleventh chapter deals with the issue of protection and security. The twelfth chapter is a case study of Windows NT and the last chapter is a case study of LINUX.
The author has tried to cover various concepts related to the theme in a simple language along with examples. This is a student oriented book and covers syllabus of universities like U.P. Technical University, Uttarakhand Technical University, Punjab Technical University, Maharishi Dayanand University, Kurukshetra University and Rajasthan Technical University.
About the Author
Neetu Singh is presently working with IMS Engineering College, Ghaziabad. She has done MCA and is also pursuing MTech (Computer Science and Engineering). She has more than eight years of experience in academics and industry and is also actively involved in implementing various real time projects. The students have made more than thirty projects based on Java under her guidance.
