About the Book

We are gratified by the favourable reception given to the first edition, and we thank the many people who wrote pointing out errors or making suggestions. Inevitably we could not incorporate every good suggestion into this new edition without an unacceptable increase in length. As we enter the new millennium, the pace of change in molecular genetics continues to accelerate. As before, we expect readers to use the Internet as the main source of factual detail, and we have included a new preliminary section to reinforce this message. We have concentrated in this edition on the principles rather than the details, but we hope that the comprehensive index will give readers quick access to the factual information that is used to illustrate the principles. Apart from general revision and updating, and some rearrangement of material reflects the increasing importance of these topics in molecular genetics. This book has been redesigned keeping the view of contemporary study of molecular genetics in twenty three chapters in two volumes. Undoubtedly, this book becomes indispensable source of references for teachers, scholars and readers.

About the Authors

Dr. Poorvi Dutta is a renowned physicist who lectured in many Indian Universities as well as in Foreign Universities. She has written a number of important and valuable articles in the field of physics and mathematical physics.  She has contributed many articles in different journals. A retired professor, Dr. Dutta was attached with Harishchanra Research Institute, Allahabad for several years.

Sushmita Gupta is pursuing her research work in molecular physics from Calcutta University, Kolkata. She is a regular contributor of thoughts provoking articles and some important research papers to different journals of national and international repute.
