About the Book

This edition presents a balanced view of mental disorders into twelve chapters in two parts. First part deals with the nature and causes and symptoms of mental disorder in six chapters that include genetic aspects, organic aspects, biological aspects, epidemiology, childhood mental disorder, and experimental study.  Second part describes the treatment of mental disorders which includes various forms of psychotherapy, psychiatric medication, and other practices in six chapters includes psychological treatment, client-centered counseling, group psychotherapy, behaviour therapy, somatic treatment; and therapeutic community. The chapters covered in the edition reflect eclectic orientation and indicates a variety of psychosocial, physiological and behavioural aspects of mental illness and its cure.

About the Author

Katherine Marsland is an Assistant Professor of Psychology, University of Kentucky. She has specialised herself in socio-emotional development; motivation, early care and education; child care quality; and development of the self-system in early childhood. Presently, she is working on longitudinal study of self-system development before school entry, longitudinal study of state child care licensing requirement for centre-based infant and toddler care, and collaborative study of decision-making, emotional intelligence and motivation along with Jeremy Gray.
