Description
About the Book
Medical Biotechnology is a multidisciplinary subject that brings together the combined research and applications from the fields of r-DNA technology, microbiology and medicine. The book starts with a brief overview of biotechnology and biomedicine. It then goes on to describe various therapeutical techniques based on DNA, RNA and proteins. Key topics like molecular diagnosis and treatment; antibiotic resistance; pharmacogenomics and drug development; nanobiotechnology and nanomedicine; biotechnology in cancer diagnosis and treatment; and biotechnology in regenerative medicine are dealt with in great detail. Emphasis is laid on management and analysis of clinical data, various processes involving biomolecules and the use of software to analyze genomes and proteomes. This book is designed for graduate & post-graduate students of biotechnology, especially those who are pursuing a course in Human Molecular Genetics.
About the Author
Sweta Sharma received her B.tech degree from Pune University, India and M.tech (Microbiology) from the Energy and Resources Institute University, New Delhi. After earning her M.tech, she worked as a Project Fellow in the Population Biology Lab at IISER, Pune for a year where she worked on in-silico investigations of controlling complex dynamics of an ecological system by introducing small perturbation schemes. She also used laboratory populations of Drosophila melanogaster for empirical verification of her theoretical models. Presently, she is working as assistant professor of microbiology in VIT, Pune.
