Description
About the Book
In this book, an attempt is made to study the evolution of democracy in India and Nehru’s contribution to its growth and sustenance. As one of the most outstanding leaders in Indian public life during that period, his political ideas had a vital bearing on the development of the Indian polity and countries of Third World. His pragmatic approach led him to apply a novel variation of socialist economic planning to India’s industrial economy. It was a combination of free enterprise and state-controlled economy avoiding either of the two extremes. He termed it a middle way or a mixed economy. This book explores three major tasks – political democracy, economic democracy and socio-religious democracy which was taken up by Jawaharlal in seven chapters. Therefore, to analyse his political ideas, principles, programme of actions and intellectual thrust, this book will be considered as fruitful.
