About the Book
The level of development of the human resources in any state/region/ country is generally measured by the Human development index. The Standard of living is not uniform among the people of different states/regions of our country due to mainly of nine indicators like occupation and working condition, health, food consumption, clothing, recreation and leisure, education, housing, social security, and human rights. Rubber and jute are the two major cash crops cultivated in Tripura. The socioeconomic condition of the rubber cultivators is better than the shifting cultivators in the north-eastern states and Tripura. There are significant interstate and inter-district variations in the malnutrition indices among the children and women across the states of the north-eastern region vis-a-vis across the district of Tripura. The present book highlights and discusses the impact of rubber plantation on standard of livings of Jhumias in Tripura. It is hoped that the present book will bebeneficial to all concerned of the society like students, academicians, human rights institutions, researchers and NGOs working in different human development field, etc.
About the Authors
Dr. Sukanta Sarkar, an Associate Professor in Department of Economics, Gambella University, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia has earned his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degreesin Economics from Tripura University and D.Litt. in Economics from Berhampur University, Odisha. Previously working as visiting lecturer in National Institute of Technology, Agartala & Tripura University, Dr Sarkar has presented many research papers published in International and national journals and attended various seminars, conferences and symposiums.
Professor Bijaya Kumar Panda has earned his M.A.,M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees from Berhampur University, Odisha. He started his career as lecturer in the P.G. Department of Economics, Berhampur University and retired from the same university. Dr. Panda has published various papers in reputed National and International Journals, and has also authored many books in economics, published by renowned publishers. He has supervised D.Litt, Ph.D. and M.Phil. Scholars in Economics.
