The very first chapter deals with the astronomical knowledge revealed in the Hindu scriptures. The Greco-Bactrian influence on early Hindu astronomers and their cosmological belief is described in second chapter. Third chapter examines Àryabhata’s interpretation of scientific planetary astronomy. Mathematical implications of astronomical siddhantas are interpreted in fourth chapter. Fifth chapter explains life and works of Hindu astronomers and the contribution of Kerala School of Astronomy in modern astronomical interpretations is described in sixth chapter. Last chapter focuses on major trends in astronomical literatures.

About the Author

P.D. Sharma was born in Gorakhpur but spent most of his youth overseas. He returned to India to do M.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur. He worked full time as a teacher in IIT Kanpur before jumping the fence to become a renowned astronomer, a subject in which he had an inborn fascination. He has written many books, guidebooks and research papers making a major contribution in Indian astronomy.
