Description
About the Book
The revised edition of this Encyclopaedia is to explore the socio-cultural identity of 207 ethnic groups of South East Asia contributed by noted scholars which range from a few lines to nine or ten pages in length. Each entry deals with the physical, historical, social, political, economic, religious and cultural information on ethnic groups of South East Asian countries— Burma, Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor, Hongkong, Indonesia, Laos, Macau, Malayasia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. In this edition, we focus on the ways of life of South East Asian people—both past and present—and the factor that have caused the culture to change over time and place. The task which we have performed in this edition is, no doubt, beset with difficulties but we shall consider our labour amply rewarded if this monumental work is found useful by scholars and readers of ethnic study of South-east Asia. We are highly grateful to all those scholars whose works on 29 ethnic groups have been incorporated in this revised edition.
