Description

About the Book

This book delves into the distinct features, themes, and english translation of 20 Yoga Upanishadic texts. These texts deal with the theory and practice of Yogic techniques, with varied emphasis on methodology ranging from postures, breath exercises, meditation (dhyana), sound (nada), tantra (kundalini anatomy) and others to attain the knowledge of Brahman and the state of Samadhi, which is the plane of getting liberation. These Upanishads reveal the harmonious resonance that exists between the outer world of sound and the inner world of consciousness. Primarily, practices referred in Yoga Upanishads are as follows: Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, and Samadhi. A Yoga sadhaka through the practice of the Asana eliminates diseases; by the practice of the Pranayama the diseases of the mind or ill effects of the actions; discomfort and mental disorders are eliminated through the practice of the Pratyahara; by the practice ofDharana, mental stability and peace are attained; and through meditation one can achieve Samadhi which is the highest state of consciousness. It consists of a yoga practitioner reaching spiritual enlightenment where the self, the mind, and the object of meditation merge together into one. We are thankful for all those scholars whose works have been used in this volume.
