About the Book
This book is an attempt to understand the problems and challenges for rural entrepreneurship in the context of rural development in India and possible suggestions to overcome the problems into seven chapters. The first chapter discusses the evolution of entrepreneurship in India from ancient times to contemporary period. The chapter emphasises the role of the democratic institution in fostering entrepreneurship and assesses the need of a democratic state for creation of an environment for entrepreneurship. It also evaluates the importance of local governing institutions for nurturing rural entrepreneurship and income generation. The third chapter examines the role of catalytic agents like the government machinery and non-government agencies in constitution of rural entrepreneurship, constraints to development of rural entrepreneurs, and ways and means to foster rural entrepreneurship. Developing entrepreneurial activities through value addition and processing of local raw materials and resources in rural areas is explained in fourth chapter. The fifth chapter presents profiles or case studies of five Indian entrepreneurs of rural background. Their stories cover educational pursuits and various landmarks and critical junctures that shaped their respective careers. The sixth chapter deals with the linkages between various economic activities within a particular category in the Indian context and last chapter discusses the planning process of rural enterprise. Hope this book will be helpful in creating entrepreneurs and self-employed in rural India.
About the Author
Dr. Vinay Ojha has obtained MBA & Ph.D. in Management from ICFAI University. He has also done B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering from Nagpur University. Dr. Ojha has around 10 years of teaching and 11 years of industrial experience. He has worked in the companies like Bhushan Steel, Bajaj Auto at various positions. He has conducted workshops and MDPs for various organizations in the field of management and has authored many papers which have been published in national and international journals. He possesses a blend of practical and theoretical knowledge of management which is very useful in transforming management trainees.
