The second edition of this book provides an accessible and informed introduction to the development of new theoretical as well as practical approaches to Indian geography.  This edition is redesign in an easily accessible style with generous expositions of key claims and arguments, and with thorough cross-referencing between chapters. It may serve as a comprehensive source of knowledge for graduate and post graduate students and introductory course for students of cultural or economic geography, or as a resource for sociology, anthropology, or social science departments. This text has also been redesigned for higher education and covers latest syllabus of UPSC Civil Services (Main) and States Public Service Commission examinations. Reader’s advices and suggestions are gratefully acknowledged and their views are incorporated in this second edition but the basic structure of the book has been retained.

About the Author

Rupali Chatterjee has done Master and M.Phil from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and  Ph.D. on “the economic, cultural and geopolitical implications of globalization in third world” from Clark University, Massachuesetts. Her main thrust of research on the contradictions of globalization, capital-labour confrontations, class-identity negotiations, market-state reorganizations, and hegemony-counter-hegemonic contestations. She also investigates urban transformations, landscape changes, segregation, gettoization and other forms of urban exclusions in the context of a Neoliberal entrepreneurial turn in urban governance all over the world. Dr. Rupali teaches Indian Geography, Cultural Geography, and Human Geography at Kamaraj University, Madurai.
