About the Book

The present book entitled, ‘Psychosocial Aspect of Health and Illness’ is such a book in the world of health and illness of the edited nature where about fifty four scholars have contributed their empirical and theoretical views on psychosocial aspect of health and illness.

The major objective of this book is to bring together the health researchers, psychologists to report their work on various critical issues related to health and illness. This book presents a balanced view of health and illness and has focused on current thinking in the field. The articles covered in the book reflect eclectic orientation and indicates a variety of psychosocial, physiological and behavioural aspects of health and illness.

The present book contains 36 theoretical and empirical articles of about fifty four contributors belonging to medicine, engineering, education, sociology, psychology, home science and other disciplines. For the convenience of the readers this book has been classified into five sections.

About the Editors

Dr. Sandhya Ojha is working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology, Shri a.k.p.g. College, varanasi, (v.b.s. Purvanchal university, Jaunpur). She has completed her education from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. She has teaching and research career of more than fifteen years. Her main area of research is clinical psychology and disability. Dr. Ojha has versatile personality and she has contributed to society as a writer, poetess and orator. She is also the founder member of ‘Maa Durga Intermediate College’ and ‘Pahel Rehabilitation and Counseling Centre’, Varanasi. She has written two books, one of them “Ashmita”, is the collection of her life touching poems and second one is” Health and Well Being: Emerging Trends”. “She has also contributed numerous research papers in various national and international journals of repute. She has participated in number of national and international seminars, conferences and workshops and also she has been the investigator of a ugc project entitled “social support as moderator in social anxiety and well-being of physically handicapped student”.

Dr. Shambhu Upadhyay started his teaching career as Lecturer in the Department of Psychology, M.G. Kashi Vidyapith around 20 years back and presently he is serving in the same department as Associate Professor. Dr. Upadhyay has published more than one and half dozen research papers in journals of repute and has contributed several articles in various edited books. He has also published two books – one dealing with Theories and Principles of Learning and the other with the Personality Structure of Indian Tribal Population. Dr. Upadhyay is also on the editorial board of several journals and is presently Editor of the Indo-Indian Journal of Social Science Researches and Convener and Member of Editorial Board of Indian Journal of Social Science Researches. Apart from these he has supervised 12 Ph.D. level researches and 7 M.Phil level researches dealing with various aspects of personality, stress and mental health.
